Synoptics Ltd develops and manufactures innovative scientific instruments and systems that exploit digital imaging technology for a range of disciplines. Synoptics offers its products through 3 divisions.

  • Syngene - produces equipment for life scientists to image and analyse electrophoresis gels used for DNA and protein analysis.
  • Synbiosis - produces equipment for microbiologists to automate microbial colony counting.
  • Syncroscopy - provides systems which apply digital imaging techniques to microscopy applications, such as life and material sciences.

Artemis is a company engaged in the design of specialised cameras capable of detecting low levels of light, which are suitable for use by astronomers (in conjunction with a telescope) and in the field of life science imaging. Artemis has developed expertise in the precise control of the CCD sensor, in low-noise analog-to-digital conversion circuits and in the software required to deliver the final image to the controlling computer. Synoptics was an early OEM customer of Artemis and Artemis now concentrates on the design of the cameras; all production is done by Perseu. Artemis and Perseu now operate under the single Atik brand.

Perseu manufactures, under licence, the cameras designed by Artemis and sells them to amateur astronomers internationally, both directly and via distributors and dealers. Artemis and Perseu now operate under the single Atik brand.
